How To Sleep Better Sleep
Identify Your True Happiness
I have a friend who writes songs and poetry. One time he wrote something very thought provoking that
has stayed with me ever since, “…There’s always that little thing you never got to do, and as you lay there in
bed snuggled up with your wife your kids sleeping upstairs and your car parked in the drive, something keeps
bugging tugging at your trouble mind but you tell yourself it’s nothing duck it and chuck it to the side, until one
day you find yourself cocooned in a room with a bottle of vodka listening to melodic
tunes”.
Now that might sound a little extreme. But suppressing our goals and dreams can lead us down a very
unhappy path to a dark and negative place, and I have seen on numerous occasions a pattern of poor sleep
develop in those who fight against their destiny.
We have spoken before about the subconscious mind and how it becomes
alive at night, most annoyingly when we want to fall asleep. Well, when we run from ourselves and what’s
inside, our dreams, our aspirations…when we put other people's expectations of us before our own happiness we are
stuffing our subconscious mind full of thoughts we are failing to address. These thoughts will consistently
resurface and the majority of us continually oppress them.
The answer is simple, face up to your desires and start fulfilling your destiny. What is it that you
really want out of life? Take 10 minutes, get a pen and just jot down some thoughts as you address that
question.
Part of good sleep hygiene is clearing the mind before bedtime and making a pathway for better
sleep. It is impossible to clear that pathway if you don’t address your happiness.
1. Are you in a relationship you want to get out of?
2. Do you want to start painting, making music or reengage with a passion
you left behind?
3. Do you want to change career?
4. Do you want to move to another country?
5. Do you want to go travelling?
6. Could you do with some time on your own?
There is nothing wrong with addressing your own happiness, you deserve it and those who love you
will understand and be there for you. In fact it is often in times of self development that we see where our real
love and friendship lay. When it is our turn for support some people jump ship, and quite often this is what we are
afraid of. We avoid addressing our destiny through fear of being alone. Yet what we must always remember is that
following a natural path always opens up new doors, new friendships and new avenues of happiness…and better
sleep!
The 'Six Steps' changed my life, but I also had to do some soul searching
to allow my soul to rest properly at night. Now that I am working everyday towards personal happiness I don’t worry
about the future, I deal with my current state of happiness and let that steer the way. Don’t fear your goals and
the things in life that would make you truly happy. Better sleep is about you, and only you can make positive
changes to your life.
